Jane Khudyakov, assistant professor of biological sciences, received a grant from the National Science Foundation for a project titled "." The project is in collaboration with researchers at University of North Carolina鈥揥ilmington; Sonoma State University; University of California, San Diego; San Diego State University; and University of Nebraska鈥揕incoln.

Adrienne Brungess, professor of lawyering skills, is the co-chair of the Outreach Committee for the Legal Writing, Research and Rhetoric section of the conference in early January.

Ken Albala, professor of history, had his article "" published in Gastronomica鈥檚 winter issue. It recounts his appearance on Japanese TV learning how to make the dried skipjack tuna flakes used in traditional Japanese cuisine.

Martin Camps, professor of modern languages and literatures and Latin American studies, had seven poems published in the Journal "" published by the "Centro de Ense帽anza T茅cnica y Superior Universidad" (Center for Technical and Higher Education). Camps also had his of Enrique Serna's latest book appear in the cultural newspaper 鈥淟a Jornada Semanal鈥� in Mexico City.

Cosana Eram, associate professor of French, uncovered a previously unknown youth journal in Romanian language by Benjamin Fondane, a modernist French writer of Romanian origin who died at Auschwitz in 1943. Her translation of the 1915 "Herta Journal" and the accompanying critical article titled "脌 la recherche de la femme lumineuse" were published in French in "Titanic鈥揃ulletin international de l'association Benjamin Fondane" in October.

Marcos Gridi-Papp, associate professor of biological sciences, published the paper " (doi: 10.1007/s10393-019-01447-x). The study was co-authored by Sara Zlotnik and Ximena Bernal of Purdue University.

Gridi-Papp, Amy D. Lagorio 鈥�15, Kiran Grewal 鈥�15, 鈥�18, Shanise Djuhari 鈥�16, Kevin Le 鈥�14 and Ramson Mulhim 鈥�15 authored the paper "" published in the Anatomical Record (doi: 10.1002/ar.24267). The study was partly funded by a 91成人导航 Fund grant awarded to Gridi-Papp and by a Hunter Nahhas Summer Research Fellowship awarded to Lagorio.

Jennifer Helgren, associate professor and co-chair of the history department, published a chapter entitled "Gender, Civic Fitness, and Disability in Post鈥揥orld War II American Youth Organizations" in 鈥�.鈥�

Ryan Hill, associate professor of biological sciences, graduate student Karina Torres and collaborators from University of Florida had their paper "" published in the journal Tropical Lepidoptera Research.

Hill, Erin Thompson 鈥�18 and Jason Baumsteiger, visiting professor 2017-2018, had their paper entitled "" published in the journal Insects.

Zach Stahlschmidt, assistant professor of biological sciences, along with Narin Jeong 鈥�18, Dustin Johnso 鈥�17, 鈥�19 and Nick Meckfessel 鈥�18, had their article 鈥�" accepted for publication by the Journal of Comparative Biology鈥揃.

Qingwen Dong, professor of communication, chaired a panel on 鈥淚ntercultural Communication Theories and Principles as Guides in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Teaching: The Graduate Teaching Assistant Perspective鈥� at the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Teaching Symposium in UC Merced on Oct. 5. Three communication graduate presenters were Kelly Hutchison, Megan Chatelain and Alissa Pellegri.

Dong gave a keynote speech on digital journalism challenges and social responsibility of professional journalists at the 2019 Sino-American Journalism Communication Research Summit in Nanchang, China, on Oct. 18鈥�19.

Dong, along with three visiting professors, Ziwen Luo, Jinlong Zhang and Ying Yang, also presented three research papers at the at California State University, East Bay on Nov. 1.

Alan Lenzi, professor of religious studies, presented his paper "Signs and Signifying in Ludlul Bel Nemeqi" at the national meeting of the Society of Biblical Literature on Nov. 24.

• Jianhua Ren, professor of chemistry, Yuntao Zhang 鈥�21 and Joshua S. Ho鈥� 19 co-authored the poster presentation 鈥淪ystematic Alteration of Gas-Phase Acidities and Conformations with Insertion of a D-Amino Acid in Oligopeptides鈥� and 鈥淐onformations and Energetics of B- and Y-Ions in Peptoid Fragmentation.
• Ren, Yadwinder Singh Mann 鈥�21 and Zhang co-authored the poster presentation, 鈥淯nderstanding the Perplexing and Interesting Pathways of Peptoid Fragmentation.鈥�
• David Sparkman, adjunct professor of chemistry, Michael Browne 鈥�21, Tommy Nguyen 鈥�20 and Krege Christison 鈥�19, along with Diablo Analytical鈥檚 Itsuko Iwai, co-authored the poster presentation 鈥淩apid Quantitative Analysis of Melamine in Semi-solid Food.鈥�
• Sparkman, Christison, Browne and Nguyen also co-authored the poster presentation 鈥淭P 151 Analysis of Jet Fuel Thermal Oxidative Deposits by Pyrolysis Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry.鈥�
• Liang Xue, associate professor of chemistry, Craig Vierra, professor of biological sciences, Mandeep Singh 鈥�20, Vanessa Rangel 鈥�23 and Ryan Hekman 鈥�16 co-authored the poster presentation 鈥淏inding of Phenanthroline-Neomycin Conjugates with Different G-Quadruplex DNA Investigated by ESI Mass Spectrometry and Isothermal Titration Calorimetry.鈥�

Daniel Croxall, assistant professor of lawyering skills, will be presenting at the Association of American Law Schools conference in January.

Omar Dajani, professor of law and co-director of the McGeorge Global Center for Business and Development, along with Asli Bali of UCLA, convened a panel to present chapters from their volume on Federalism and Decentralization in the Modern Middle East during the on Nov. 14 in New Orleans. He also presented his own chapter, which explores a two-state confederation as a framework for resolving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Mindy Danovaro, assistant dean for development, will speak on the 鈥淐ulture of Philanthropy in Advancement鈥� in the Advancement Track of the Association of American Law Schools Conference in January in Washington, D.C.

Mary-Beth Moylan, associate dean for experiential learning and professor of lawyering skills, will have a presentation during the Associate Deans for Academic Affairs and Research session entitled "Building and Sustaining Alliances as an Associate Dean" in January at the Association of American Law Schools annual meeting. Moylan also will conduct an interview for the Women's Oral History Project of the Women in Legal Education Section.

Brian Slocum, professor of law, gave the presentation "The Potential of Corpus Linguistics for Legal Interpretation" to 150 law students at Yale Law School in early November. Slocum also gave a presentation titled "The Ordinary Meaning of International Law鈥� at the American Society of International Law Midyear Meeting held at Brooklyn Law School in New York.

Michael Vitiello, distinguished professor of law, will present a paper on California's efforts to legalize marijuana and how that may impact a change in federal law during the conference, 鈥淭he Controlled Substances Act at 50 Years鈥� in February at Arizona State University Sandra Day O'Connor College of Law in Phoenix.

David Gillette, assistant professor of physical therapy, presented a poster at the October Tri-State PT Conference in Las Vegas entitled "Screening of Physical Activity Levels in Older Adults at a Community-Based Health Fair." Co-authors were Preeti Oza, associate professor physical therapy, and Todd Davenport, program director and professor of physical therapy.

Alicia Rabena-Amen, assistant professor and director of clinical education, presented her poster 鈥淪tudents鈥� Perceptions of Critical Thinking Before and After Instructional Strategies for Critical Thinking鈥� at the American Physical Therapy Association's Educational Leadership Conference in Bellevue, Washington, in October 2019. Co-authors are Mauriana Wilcox 鈥�15 and Oza.

Benjamin Reece, assistant clinical professor of speech-language pathology and director of clinical education, along with Jill Duthie, associate professor emerita of speech-language pathology, and Nicholaus Brock, assistant clinical professor of speech-language pathology and director of the RiteCare Childhood Language Center of Stockton, presented 鈥淎n Effective & Logical Approach to Clinical Education: Using a Hierarchy鈥� at the 2019 American Speech-Language-Hearing Association Convention Nov. 21鈥�23 in Orlando.

Madhu Sundarrajan, assistant professor of speech-language pathology, along with Jessica H. Franco of the University of Texas at Austin, presented 鈥淧arent Directed Treatment for Children with Autism Spectrum Disorders鈥� at the 2019 American Speech-Language-Hearing Association Convention Nov. 21鈥�23 in Orlando. Sundarrajan, Franco and Matt Zellner of the University of Texas at Austin, also presented 鈥淚ncluding Parents in IPP: Evaluating a Parent-Training Program for Language Intervention in Children with ASD.鈥�

Jeannene M. Ward-Lonergan, professor and chair of the Department of Speech-Language Pathology, and Duthie presented the poster 鈥淪tate of Dyslexia: Recent Legislation & Guidelines for Serving School-Age Children & Adolescents With Dyslexia鈥� at the 2019 American Speech-Language-Hearing Association Convention Nov. 21鈥�23 in Orlando.
