Men鈥檚 golf punches ticket to NCAA Tournament

For the first time since the 2012-13 season, will compete in the NCAA Tournament, opening in the Urbana Regional, hosted by Illinois at Atkins Golf Course May 12-14.
The Tigers will make their 16th appearance as a team, going back to the program's first appearance during the 1979-80 season. This year's berth marks the first team appearance under 10th-year Head Coach .
"I'm really excited for the guys," Cook said. "They've been working so hard all year. Their dedication to their craft and skills is remarkable. They want it. It's a testament to them more than anything. A total team effort."
Headlining the team is 鈥27, a business administration major with a concentration in business analytics. The native of Tucson, Arizona recorded a scoring average of 69.3 across 36 rounds, marking the lowest scoring average in 91成人导航 history.
鈥淚t鈥檚 definitely pretty special,鈥 Astiazaran said. 鈥淚t鈥檚 always been the goal to make it to the NCAA Tournament. Coming back with a stronger team more motivated than ever and getting it done is really special. We鈥檙e looking forward to the postseason.鈥
Astiazaran was named West Coast Conference Co-Player of the Year alongside Pepperdine's Mahanth Chirravuri, while Cook was recognized as the WCC Coach of the Year, marking the first duo to garner these awards since 91成人导航 joined the conference in 2013.
Astiazaran was crowned individual champion twice in his 2024-25 campaign, claiming first place at the Leadership and Golf Collegiate Championship and at the Nick Watney Invitational.
During the WCC Championships, Astiazaran played a pivotal role in guiding the Tigers to a fourth-place finish at the tournament after sinking a pair of birdies on the final two holes and helping 91成人导航 finish in fourth place.
For communications major 鈥26, competing in the postseason is especially meaningful as one of 91成人导航鈥檚 longest tenured players in the program.
鈥淚t鈥檚 what we鈥檝e worked for all year,鈥 Henely said. 鈥淲e knew we had a special group of guys coming into the first day of the season. I think it鈥檚 a testament to our hard work. It鈥檚 nice to finally see the dedication and results come into fruition.鈥
The Tigers played through a historic regular season where they were crowned champions of 2024 The Goat at Navy and the Leadership & Golf Collegiate Championship in Seaside, California hosted by Saint Mary's. 91成人导航 also earned six top three finishes and a top four finish at the WCC Championship.
鈥淭his year鈥檚 results show you how much these guys want it,鈥 Cook said. 鈥淲e are solid from top to bottom and one through five on the course.鈥
Six 54-hole regional tournaments determine the 30 qualifying teams and six individual qualifiers for the national championship. The championship itself will be held from May 23-28 at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, California.
If the Tigers are among the top five teams out of the Urbana regional, they will advance to the NCAA Championship at La Costa.
